Song from the Uproar: The Lives and Deaths of Isabelle Eberhardt

ROYCE VAVREK LIBRETTO
VERDIGRIS ENSEMBLE
VOICES OF CHANGE
BRONWYN WHITE MEZZO-SOPRANO
JOSHUA L. PEUGH STAGE DIRECTION & CHOREOGRAPHY
UTD ATEC LIGHTSQUAD PROJECTIONS OMAR DAVILA | PABLO REYES

After experiencing the death of her parents and brother in quick succession, Isabelle Eberhardt, a native of Switzerland, travelled alone to Algeria. Against societal norms, Eberhardt dressed as a man, joined the Algerian army, married an Algerian soldier, converted to Islam and was initiated into Qadiriyya, a Sufi order.  Singers and instrumentalists tell Eberhardt’s story from the remaining fragments of her writing, with newly commissioned staging, choreography and immersive projections. This innovative restaging of American composer Missy Mazzoli’s opera in one act, Song from the Uproar will be an intimate and thought-provoking contemporary performance that addresses themes of gender identity and mental health.

NOTE: Voices of Change and Verdigris Season Subscribers will have first choice of attending this event.  Each VOC Season Subscription will include one (1) ticket to your choice of one (1) of the three (3) performances.  Please select your date preference when purchasing your Season Subscription(s).
